A dissertation or thesis is an original scientific research work in the chosen by the author area within the fields of high-energy particle physics and/or accelerator technologies. The thesis must contain a significant amount of research based on the use of original methods, approaches, techniques, or technologies. During the research, the author is expected to carry out a portion of their research whilst on a long-term attachment in an appropriate laboratory, such as CERN. Furthermore, the student is also expected to participate in appropriate schools and conferences throughout their doctoral studies. The final dissertation must contain noteworthy novel scientific results of such quality as to be publishable in a reputable scientific journal.
